Abstract
The cochlear implant (CI) is a remarkable invention in biomedical engineering. It has transformed the lives of over one million individuals by utilizing electric current stimulation to restore the sense of hearing. The signal processing of the CI, especially the core section called sound coding strategy, has continuously been innovated over decades to improve remaining challenges in CI listening. Recently, deep learning has been applied to CI signal processing many aspects. Our study demonstrated the potential feasibility of using deep learning to replace a conventional sound coding strategy. With the advances of artificial intelligence, the innovation of CI signal processing is an ongoing journey to positively impact the lives of many individuals.
