Abstract
In his talk, Carlos will share his unusual story of changing fields and careers as an alternative to the linear path that most professionals follow. He will talk about both the technical and personal lessons learned, the pros and cons of such an approach to professional life, but most importantly for all of us tech geeks, he will introduce his discovered connection between Human-Machine Interaction, NLP, Computer Vision, Robotics, and AI Agents. He will also discuss his future plans to bring it all together into a coherent package.
BIO
Carlos Argueta is a Robotics Engineer at LungTeh Shipbuilding. Carlos first visited Taiwan in the summer of 2004 to attend a summer camp at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and immediately fell in love with the island. After completing his bachelor's degree at Unitec in his native Honduras, Carlos obtained a scholarship from ICDF to pursue a Master's degree at NTHU. There, he worked on an Interactive Music Conductor system under Professor Yi-Shin Chen. After his Master’s, he continued with a PhD, still at IDEA Lab, but changed his focus to Natural Language Processing, working in the then-emerging field of Sentiment and Emotion Analysis. After graduation, Carlos embarked on an entrepreneurial journey that saw him building phone apps before transitioning to Computer Vision, Face Recognition, and Face Analysis. Later, he moved into education and worked as a full-time Computer Science teacher at Asian American International Academy. During his teaching years, Carlos taught himself Robotics, and finally, in early 2024, he transitioned to the robotics industry as a Robotics Engineer at LungTeh Shipbuilding.
